Welcome to our Bridging the Gap Islington Newsletter – explaining how we help people through effective mentoring.
As restrictions continue to ease, finding employment is a goal identified by a number of mentees we are supporting. Often, there are various barriers and challenges that our mentees may be facing in order to find the right employment.
In a recent partnership, finding employment was identified as a goal at the start of the partnership. After time in prison, the mentee had the training, skills and intentions to get back into personal care work as well as try and turn their creative skills into a business opportunity.
However, over the following meetings, there was little progress in finding work and the mentee became quite low and unfocused because of the lack of progress.
But through the encouragement, motivation and support from their mentor, they broke the goal down into more manageable parts and together were able to:
– successfully apply for funding to buy some tools of the trade.
– reflect together on potential avenues which tapped into the mentees talents and passions.
– keep the creative business plan on track by proactively securing commissions.
So, together, they were recently able to celebrate, when the mentee found a job! Now, the focus is ensuring the mentee feels comfortable in the first few weeks of their new role. We wish them every luck and success as they re-start their career!
