Too many people are homeless at Christmas
Can you help?
According to Shelter, the homelessness charity, there will be 167,000 people in London who are homeless this Christmas.

Homelessness in London has risen by 11% in the past year.
This includes 165,000 people who are the “hidden homeless”. They are in temporary accommodation, hostels, or sofa-surfing.  They may be moving between different places regularly

People who are in temporary accommodation find it difficult to build independent lives for themselves.  They may not have a permanent address. They may have to fit in with the people around them.  This damages their confidence as well as making it difficult to engage with official sources of help.

Weekly meetings with a mentor from Bridging the Gap, builds people’s confidence and self-worth, as well as helping with practical tasks like applying for benefits and looking at different options for housing.

We need money to pay for volunteers’ expenses and a limited amount of professional help.

£12 pays for travel and expenses for a volunteer mentor to meet someone who needs help.

We welcome people in North London who would like to change their lives and are at risk of homelessness or have experience of the criminal justice system or substance misuse.

If you think you know someone who would benefit from mentoring contact Robin on [email protected] or ring 07842 612979 to discuss.

We are very grateful for the continuing interest and support of our volunteer mentors.
